Hancock Whitney Stadium Stadium

Mobile, AL 36608

The University of South Alabama is a medium sized school of 15,000 students located in Mobile, Alabama that opened in 1963. The Jaguars football team was officially born in December 2007, when the school voted to allow football to be played beginning in 2009. Now, 12 years later the final touches of a program that was literally started from the ground up are on display with the opening of the newest, and only, stadium to open on campus during the 2020 FBS College Football Season, Hancock Whitney Stadium.

Named after a Mississippi-based bank, the state of the art, $80 million, 25,450-seat stadium officially opened in time for the 2020 season, and replaces the aging Ladd-Peebles Stadium, which is located about 8 miles off-campus. That outdated facility, which opened in 1950, hosted the Jaguars during the first 11 years of their existence. Despite having a few successful first few seasons, since joining the FBS in 2012 the Jaguars have not had a lot of winning seasons, never winning more than six games. However, they have had two bowl appearances and one NFL draft pick who played in a Super Bowl, in Rams Tight End Gerald Everett.
